Frequently Asked Questions

What if I've never done Pilates before?, or I am out of shape? could this work for me?

Absolutely! We welcome and encourage everybody – all ages, genders, and fitness levels. If this will be your first time trying Pilates, we encourage you to book in for an initial consultation so that we can have a chat and find the perfect class for you. Our instructors are here to help you through class, offer modifications, and answer any questions you may have. If you have never been on a reformer before and are a little nervous, give us a call and book in for an initial consultation so that we can find the perfect fit for you.

I’ve done mat Pilates before, but never Reformer. What is my best option?

We recommend that all clients who have never used a reformer before book in for an initial consultation so that we can take you through the ins and outs of the studio and get you familiar with the equipment before you join a group class. This way, we can find the most suitable class for you, so that you get the best experience possible.

What can I expect?

Our sessions are all about lengthening and strengthening your body and most importantly having FUN! Expect to leave our studio walking a little taller, feeling stronger, calmer and more connected!

How many classes a week is recommended?

For the best results, we recommend a minimum of two classes per week but understand that both time and financial constraints may make this difficult. We are so passionate about the benefits of Pilates that even if you are managing one class a week it is better than no Pilates!

Can I bring a friend or family member?

Of course, the more the merrier! As all classes have a set capacity, your friend/family member will need to prebook their class to avoid disappointment, our classes fill up quickly!

Do you accept walk-ins?

Because of the nature of our studio, instructors are only here during class times or running private sessions during which they are busy with clients. We ask that you book in online ahead of time or call to book in an initial consultation.

Where do I start?

If you are an experienced Pilates enthusiast looking to continue their Pilates journey with us, you can start by downloading our app, creating a log in and booking in! if you have more complex needs and want to have a chat or book in for an initial consultation, please feel free to give us a call.

What do I need to bring to class?

For both hygiene and safety Pilates grip socks are compulsory for all clients. Either bring along your own pair or purchase a pair that we have for sale in the studio for your convenience.  Wear active wear clothing that you feel comfortable in, such as leggings, pants, a singlet or t-shirt. Ideally clothing that slightly hugs the body allows the instructor to clearly see how you are moving, which helps us to better correct form and technique. A water bottle and small towel is optional.

I need to cancel my appointment, what do I do?

All classes can be cancelled via the studio APP. Please note that if you are trying to cancel an appointment inside of the 24 hour cancellation window, you will be automatically charged for the class.

Do you have a cancellation or no show policy?

As we are a small, busy studio, we reply on our classes being as well attended as possible and to ensure that any waitlisted clients can book in. For this reason, we have a strict 24 hour cancellation policy. This means that if you cancel a pre-booked 24 hours before the class start time, the class is automatically reallocated to your class pack. No shows or cancellations made within 24 hours of the class start time will result in the forfeit of that class and you will be charged in full.

What if I go away on Holiday?

If you are planning a holiday, just let us know and we will remove your bookings for the duration of your holiday.

I have a lower back injury/pain. Is Pilates safe for me to do?

As long as you are cleared by your physician/physical therapist or surgeon, Pilates is a great way to help alleviate lower back pain or rehabilitate after a back injury. Traditional ‘core’ work only targets the outermost abdominal muscles, whereas Pilates exercises strengthen a lot more, including the deep abdominal muscles, pelvic floor, lumbar extensors, and glutes, which all work together to stabilise and support the spine and lumbopelvic area, bringing the body into better alignment and helping to alleviate pain. Although our instructors are highly experienced in working with back injuries you are ultimately responsible for your own body, and we ask that you avoid doing any exercise that causes any pain and let an instructor know if anything doesn’t feel right. For any acute back injuries, we recommend that you begin with a few private sessions to build up strength before joining a group class.

Can I do Pilates if I am pregnant/postnatal?

Pilates is a great way to maintain fitness throughout pregnancy and to rehabilitate after labour. It is important to strengthen the pelvic floor, glutes, legs and arms during pregnancy and after giving birth but there are some modifications that will need to be made once you pass your first trimester of pregnancy. It is vital to consult a physician as to when you may return to exercise after giving birth but once you are cleared for exercise, we welcome you re-join your group class or attend our weekly Mums and Bubs class.

Where can I park?

There is ample parking on the big lawn outside of the front of the studio, alternatively, you can park on David Low Way and use the stairs down to Arthur Street.

Do you have stairs?

Yes, you will need to walk up and down a set of stairs to access and leave the studio.

Will Pilates help me lose weight?

Pilates will help you to feel better, to reduce pain and discomfort, increase your flexibility and strength. If you are feeling stronger, have less pain and feel better in your body, you might find that you are more inclined to be more active, to walk more, or go for that run! It’s not the actual Pilates itself that will encourage any weight loss, but all the benefits that come with doing Pilates just might!

Will my muscles be sore after Pilates?

We get asked this question a lot! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel any muscle soreness after your first few Pilates sessions. Pilates was not designed to be a high impact, fast paced work out that result in your muscles burning. Typically, you will feel taller, more connected and more balanced at first. Once you start to master the principles of Pilates and get better and better, you may just find that you do start to feel some muscle soreness but feeling ‘stiff’ after Pilates is in no way an indication of whether it is working!

Why do I shake in class?

Pilates is brilliant to isolate and strengthen the small muscle groups in the body. Don’t be afraid to let your muscles shake, it’s a good thing! It means muscle fatigue which will improve as you continue your practice and mastering the Pilates technique and as you build up your strength.

How soon will I see results?

It is hard to know, and it generally depends on how well you connect to the concept of Pilates. Actual results vary from client to client and many factors influence your success such as your level of fitness, experience and how many sessions per week you do. You could start to feel a difference in your body after just one session, but we generally find that most clients are starting to feel more comfortable and feeling stronger within 6-10 sessions. For optimal results, we recommend a minimum of two sessions per week.
